Hurricane Irma

Hello Cinnamon Cove Friends,
Wow, did we ever dodge the Big One. What we all thought was going to be a certain direct hit from Irma, turned out to be a glancing blow that produced strong winds and heavy rains.
I watched NBC2 on line all day as it progressed toward and through Fort Myers and was so relieved for Cinnamon Cove and all of us as it did not come our way in a more direct manner.
Many residents chose to leave the area heading north. But some stayed to ride it out. I heard the wonderful Cinnamon Cove spirit came forth…neighbors taking care of neighbors. The folks in Building 2 gathered on the upper floors and shared food and drink. Building 11 also hosted many folks. Also, Building 4 opened its doors for higher shelter. Those are the ones I heard about, but no doubt, there were others.
All power in The Cove is back on as of 12:30 or so. That’s pretty amazing.
A couple of points….
The Cinnamon Cove Clubhouse Facebook page was and continues to be a real plus for communication. There are 313 members on this page, all of whom can see the posted pictures and commentary regarding our area.
Thanks go out especially to Janet Carloni for her great pictures and running narrative of developments. A great thanks also to Tom Nielsen, Armina Marinelli and John Marinelli for their pictures. It’s good to be able to see the aftermath and know it’s not too bad.
A couple of streets are blocked because of the trees. These will be taken care of as soon as tree cutters can get there. Island Management is on top of this.
So you know, there is a disaster plan in place and is managed by Island Management. When this kind of occurrence happens, the plan kicks in and needed contractors are contacted and they respond accordingly.
I did not hear of any residence having water infiltration. That’s not to say it didn’t happen. I just don’t know about it. I am relying on the reports of folks who are there.
Don’t forget, if you want to join the Cinnamon Cove Clubhouse Facebook page, you must be a Facebook user. Search for the site and request to join the page and you will be approved.
I hope I can speak for all of you when I say how grateful and blessed we are to have come through this with everyone safe and with minimal damage to our beautiful community.
